Private school sixth form admissions (with full bursary)

Hi - newcomer to tsr here! ; )

Im looking to apply to some sixth forms for 2025 entry:
clsg
spgs
westminister
kcs
eltham college
also london oratory chool (but thats not private)
Does anyone know abt the format of the exams/school life/how hard interviews are?

I’m homeschooled btw and am taking 13 gcses in oct 2024 (maths, additional maths, sciences, geo and history, computer science, spanish, english lit + lang and latin)

I need a full bursary as well - bc I’m slightly clever i feel i have a chance (im also 13 lol)

My preferences are westminister + kcs bc uniform as I’m not allowed to wear trousers for religious reasons

Any help would be appreciated! You can also suggest some schools i havent mentioned if u like

thnks! xx

Hi,

I attended spgs a few years ago but wasn’t on a bursary and was there from 11+ so can’t help with those things but can give some advice on school life there if that helps? In terms of uniform, a lot of people did wear skirts so I wouldn’t worry about feeling judged for not wearing trousers and so perhaps don’t pick a school based on that, especially because at schools with uniform, the skirts can be really short/the style is to wear them very short. Also, if you are worried about your younger age making you feel a bit different, there are normally a couple students in each year that are 1 or 2 years younger and a couple students do take gcses/alevels in year 8/9.

If you can get into spgs/westminster on a bursary and enjoy/succeed when in a very competitive environment, def take the opportunity, though do be aware that it is quite hard, considering getting in at 16+ is very competitive even without getting in on a bursary. (You sound clever though so you might have a chance). Everyone takes at least 11 gcses, with around 50% of the year taking additional maths and/or an extra (e.g. a language spoken at home) so I’m not sure that would mean much to the school, along with your age because it is common for people to be younger than the typical age for the year group.

Do you know what you want to take for A-level? If you know what A-levels you want to do, l would look for opportunities outside of school relating to those to show your passion/dedication to those subjects. I know a girl in my year who took philosophy, geography and double maths and although at 16+ her maths wasn’t quite good enough, her philosophy and geography entrance exams were very good so the school let her in based on that. I suspect the interviews are quite hard but they will be designed like that and the school know that so they’ll be looking for you to just give all the questions a go and not get too stressed if you get them wrong.

I hope this helps? I feel like I’ve made is sound more daunting than it acc is but you do sound clever so you might have a chance.
If you have any extra questions just ask x

Interviews are very easy in my opinion - i got a scholarship into rms - the test and interview was fairly easy - slightly challenging tho - id say if ur on track to getting arounds 9s and 8s it should be a piece of cake for u tbh
