Work experience for degree apprenticeships

I am interested in a degree apprenticeship however I basically have no work experience or anything for my cv in year 12 as I didn’t know what I wanted to do, is it still possible for me to do work experience in year 13 and other activities/workshops to put on my cv that would be sufficient for a degree apprenticeship.

Hey, yes it is still possible to get work experience. If you want, I can send you some resources about how to get work experience and a list of work experience opportunities which are available right now. Just let me know if you want those, and I'll send them over

It’s not a requirement that you have prior experience to get a degree apprenticeship. It is a requirement that you’re able to evidence your transferable skills.

Demonstrating these skills in your application, cv, interviews, and assessment day can be done by examples from school, study, hobbies, or general life experience.

I’ve interviewed a lot of apprentices this year from a range of backgrounds and experience. Prior experiences make zero difference if they end up lacking an understanding of themselves, what they want, what the hiring manager wants, or just simply aren’t able to convey their skills properly.

If you don’t leave the hiring manager feeling like your experience has lead you to this role being the next naturally step in your career/development, you’re either applying for the wrong role, or you’ve failed to convey your passions and skills effectively.

Yes, it can be like an online course, however it still counts as work experience as it usually includes work-based activities. It is also a great opportunity to get a massive company name on your CV. And employers view it really highly because of the knowledge and skills you will learn from it. So I would definitely recommend doing work experience if you get the opportunity and you are serious about getting into a degree apprenticeship

Do degree apprenticeships usually not ask for a personal statement because with a CV you can apply to different industries???

For an apprentice applicant, the most valuable thing I’d take from a candidate’s evidenced virtual work experience in an CV isn’t necessarily the skills/experience.

It shows me the candidate is proactive and takes the initiative in identifying learning opportunities and driving their own development. Saying that, I’d still like to see these qualities *in bold* highlighted in the CV and tied to the relevant experience.
