What's the best possible degree for me?

Stuck between sports psych, sports science, and sports journalism.
A-Level subjects are: English Lit, Psychology and Media Studies.
My EPQ subject is a mix between all 3 degrees - i'm looking at how traumatic brain injuries affect the physical and mental state of professional athletes in contact sports.

AAAAAAA I just can't choose haha!
Also, is it even possible for me to go into sports science with my subjects?

try having a look at those different degrees on websites of universities you may want to apply to, have a look at their entry requirements as some sports science courses may require certain a levels like biology for example but others won’t- it varies wildly across different universities. also have a lot at the modules they offer! you might see the modules for sports journalism and think it actyally doesn’t sound that much like something you’d enjoy whereas sports psych suits you perfectly (just an example). some unis are especially good for certain subjects too like they may offer a cpurse like that with really good industry links or a placement year (for law for example, hull uni offers a course called law with legislative studies and it has a placement year in westminster, there may be a sports science related degree somewhere that has an equally rare and special opportunity like that) i haven’t had a look but i would imagine york uni would do some good courses for it, might be a good place to start? but yeah have a look at specific university websites’ entries about their sports courses. sorry i couldnt help more than this, i don’t know much about sports science specifically but i know uni websites are incredibly informative and entry requirements are very different from one uni to the next. hope you find what you’re looking for tho!

This is a great question!

Sport Science is more scientifically oriented and focuses on the physical and psychological aspects of sports, while Sport Journalism is communication-focused, aiming to produce content that informs and engages the public about sports.

Based on your subjects it looks like you’re more suited to Sports Journalism as it is centered on media and comms, with a focus on developing skills in writing, interviewing, broadcasting, and digital media, with a strong emphasis on storytelling.

However as you’ve also got a psychology A Level, so Sport Science is also within your grasp because whilst it’s rooted in science, there is a focus on performance in sport. So things like improving athletic performance, preventing injuries and promoting health and fitness.

It all depends on what you want career you want to go into and what you fundamentally enjoy doing.

You should consider:

Skills developed

Sport Science:

Analytical and Research Skills: Analyzing data, conducting experiments, and understanding scientific research.

Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition.

Practical Skills: Training athletes, designing exercise programs, and using specialized equipment for performance analysis.

Sport Journalism:

Writing and Communication Skills: Crafting articles, reports, and stories for different media platforms.

Interviewing and Reporting: Gathering information from athletes, coaches, and other stakeholders.

Digital Media Skills: Proficiency in social media, multimedia production, and using content management systems.

Course Structure

Sport Science: Typically involves a mix of theoretical lectures, laboratory work, and practical sessions. Students might also engage in internships or placements with sports teams, health clinics, or fitness centers.

Sport Journalism: Often includes a blend of classroom instruction, writing workshops, and practical assignments. Students may work on campus media, intern with news organizations, or cover live sports events.

Career Paths

Sport Science: Graduates may pursue careers as sports scientists, fitness trainers, physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, or work in sports nutrition, rehabilitation, and health promotion.

Sport Journalism: Graduates typically move into roles as sports reporters, commentators, editors, or producers in print, broadcast, or digital media. They might also work in public relations, communications, or content creation for sports organizations.

We offer both courses at USW and there are spaces left to go through Clearing. It would be useful to give our Clearing Team a call and they can talk you through the eligibility for each course ☎️ 03455 76 06 06

Best of luck

I wonder why this thread is in the sports forum. It is the wrong place here for this serious discussion.
