Physiotherapy

Hi, I’m going to apply as an international student for Physiotherapy and I was considering the following universities: Plymouth, Bournemouth, Brighton, Northumbria , Essex and Robert Gordon. Can anyone tell me what you think about those unis or if anyone studied in one of these. Also could you give me some tips for the interview?
Thanks

Hi, I am not studying physiotherapy but am a student at the University of Essex. It's a great place. It is quite easy to enter here, the main thing is motivation during your interview. Good luck 👍

Hi @Sara Turri

It is so exciting to hear you are considering the University of Essex to pursue your studies in Physiotherapy 🤩.

I studied at Essex for 5 years doing my undergraduate and postgraduate here an loved it!

I was also an international student and felt right at home at Essex because we have students from 140 different countries here and around 40% of the student population is from outside the UK. The Students Union also regularly puts on events for international students to celebrate national holidays such as the Chinese New Year and the Holi Festival. 😊

The BSc Physiotherapy programme at Essex is studied over three years but also offers the opportunities for practice based learning with professional physiotherapists. You will also have regular visits from guest professionals in the industry and a number of practising clinicians to contribute to the teaching on this course.

Within our School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences, we have a range of specialist clinical laboratories and IT facilities to assist you with the effective learning and acquisition of new skills. You will be able to practice in our physiotherapy clinic on site, work with our performance athletes, and gain placement opportunities in a clinical setting.

Also if you are interested in playing a sport our Performance Sport Scholarship programme has been created for talented athletes playing at regional, national or international level, and offers a range of benefits. We want students competing in our focus sports (basketball, volleyball, tennis and football), as well as other team sports and individual athletes, to contribute to our performance sport programme. Our scholarships can include fee discounts of up to 100%, offered to athletes who demonstrate sporting excellence.

Hi Sara

My name is Will, I’m a 3rd Year Media Production student at Bournemouth University. (P.s. thank you @normaw for the tag)

While I won’t be able to talk about the degree specifically. I am able to talk about the University itself and the facilities you may be using.

Bournemouth itself is located on the south coast of the UK. Just West of Southampton and East of Plymouth.
Our University is split into two campuses, Talbot and Lansdowne. Talbot campus is our main campus which has the majority of our facilities like SportBU, the library and our Student’s Union (SUBU). Lansdowne campus is what is described as a ‘City Campus’ it is located in and around buildings in the town centre.
As a Physiotherapy student, you’ll likely be based over both campuses as our Health and Social Science facilities are predominantly based on the Lansdowne Campus and the SportBU facilities are based on the Talbot Campus.

The university itself is very nice & they make sure that they invest into our facilities to keep up to date with the industry.
The town itself is a great town to study in. As somebody that comes from Norfolk (rural/coastal East Anglia) i wanted to go to a uni that was also near the coast and Bournemouth is a perfect mix of that while introducing me to an urban lifestyle.

In terms of the interview, as someone who has just finished their placement year working for The Walt Disney Company which had an intense interview process. The biggest advice I would give it to just be yourself. Don’t try and cater to what the interviewers might want to hear. Talk about why you want to study Physiotherapy and also use it as a chance to interview the university by asking questions you might have about the course.

I hope this helps

Hi there @Sara Turri

If you are interested we do have a course at UEA for Physiotherapy, which would be worth checking out.
https://www.uea.ac.uk/course/undergraduate/bsc-physiotherapy
This will show you a course overview and the modules on offer.

This is 2nd in the UK for Physiotherapy according to the Complete University Guide 2023, so definitely worth checking out! This is also fully approved by the Health and Care Professions Council.

If you have any questions please let me know 🙂

Hi there! Glad to hear you're considering Plymouth for physiotherapy 😄

I'm going into my third year at the university and, although I study a different subject, I love the campus/facilities and know that the physiotherapy/other similar courses are great at Plymouth.

If you'd like to chat to a student from a similar course area, we have some students on our Unibuddy page who study within the same school/similar areas to physiotherapy so I'd recommend reaching out to them to find out more about the facilities and for any course-related questions regarding interviews etc.

As far as the university and student experience are though, I can safely say that it's fantastic! The campus location is perfect being a city university without the busyness of larger cities and being 2 minutes away from the main shopping centre, high street, entertainment etc., it's a perfect student city. The Plymouth Sound National Marine Park is also just a few minutes from the campus and offers some stunning views in a very picturesque area.

The UPSU offers some fantastic events during Welcome Week and throughout the year for new and existing students, including music nights, quizzes, days out to local attractions, fairs, and more, so there is a great student experience with plenty of societies and clubs to get involved with.

The campus facilities and buildings are great as they are modern and equipped with state of the art equipment, notably the new InterCity Place (the new home for health related courses), which you can check out here!

If you have any specific questions or want to find out more about the university, feel free to reach out and I'd be happy to help answer any queries you might have from a student perspective! 🙂

Best of luck!

Hi Sara, nice to meet you.

My name is Siobhan and I’m a student physiotherapists going into my 3rd year at UCLAN. I’ve found that the course is amazing and I really enjoy the diversity of it! The university I go to isn’t listed on your post but if you’re interested at all here’s the link to our website which offers more insight of what the course offers 😄 https://www.uclan.ac.uk/undergraduate/courses/physiotherapy-bsc

Now I also have helped with the physiotherapist interviews and can honestly say that what UCLAN were looking for is someone who is enthusiastic about the profession and can demonstrate good teamwork and communication skills! Mostly, we want you to be your authentic self as all the anatomy skills can be learnt but your personality is unique to you! Hope that helps and please feel free to ask anything else regarding this at anytime 😄😄
