Switching degrees from Business managemnt

I’m currently studying Business Management at Edinburgh Napier University. In September I will be going into my 3rd year of 4 year degree. I enjoy business management and have the goal after I graduate of going into finance/banking industry. I enjoy challenging myself and feel my degree wasn’t pushing me so applied on ucas to see if I could get a transfer. I now have an offer to transfer to the university of Dundee to study Business Economics would this be a good move and boost my employability or should I stick with my current degree and finish it?

Hey there, Coventry University Student Ambassador here!👋

Potential Benefits of Transferring to Business Economics:

1.

Differentiation in Skill Set: Business Economics may offer a more quantitative and analytical focus compared to Business Management, which could be advantageous if you are aiming for roles in finance or banking that require strong analytical skills.

2.

Specialization: Business Economics typically covers topics such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and economic theory, which could provide a deeper understanding of economic principles and their application in business contexts.

3.

Networking Opportunities: Attending a different university could expose you to a new network of professionals and potential employers, expanding your opportunities for internships and job placements.

4.

Academic Interest: If you have a genuine interest in economics and enjoy the subject matter, studying Business Economics may enhance your academic engagement and satisfaction.

It's a tough choice transferring to another university and changing degrees, but I believe ultimately it depends on your own career goals, curriculum offered (compare the curriculums for the 2 courses to decide which one would give you the best chances of getting into finance/banking), university reputations (on top of overall university ranking, you may want to find individual course rankings as well, just to compare the 2), and lastly reviews from students already studying that course.
You may also want to seek some sort of academic consultancy, as those companies are best experienced with guiding people through their academic journeys!

Hope this helps!
Bianca
