I'm not sure whether you can use AI for highlighting, but I wouldn't really recommend it because highlighting is a very passive study technique so you don't actually learn much. It is better to use active recall through flashcards, teaching, blurting, etc.

Is there a problem with just writing out the important parts as opposed to highlighting it?

Assuming it is also digital given you are using an AI (or considering it), could you just not copy and paste it or worst case scenario, type it out?

You could do that but it wouldn't be a valuable use of your time
