GCSE V A-Level

Hi, I know this is a post thrown around a lot so here is my situation. Due to various reasons that will be discussed in my reference, my GCSE score was fairly low - 9976555 (with a 6 in my chosen degree subject), I then had a year between my GCSE’s and A-Levels and am all the better for it. I am now predicted A*A*A* in English Lit, History & Politics and am hoping to study History, as per my UCAS form at:

St Hugh’s College Oxford,
UCL,
Durham / King’s,
Bristol,
Leeds,

Is it realistic I will get offers from these unis, despite my GCSE score being lower than the general applicant. I do have circumstances in my reference which explain this as stated, but still.
Is it likely do you think?
Thanks

GCSE's won't make that much of an impact, I would say those grades aren't below average either. If you're getting those grades at A-level then you will be fine.

Nobody can say for definite. You are choosing very competitive universities and Oxford in particular do look at your GCSEs. The best thing you can do is ask the university themselves. At a guess I suspect you will be OK in Kings, Bristol and Leeds but the others might be a problem.

What do u mean by a problem. Do UCL weight GCSE’s heavily?

History is not a mega-competitive subject.
Oxford makes it own rules, but the other Unis will really not be that bothered by your GCSEs, and your A level predictions and Personal Statement will always be more important.

Thankyou, do you think an offer from UCL is not out of the question?

No idea - I have no knowledge of how UCL assess undergrad applications for any subject, I haven't read your application, and I haven't read everyone else's.

They do for some courses see below

GCSE or equivalent qualification results do also help the admissions team whittle down applications to really competitive courses.

This is the offer rate for History at UCL. Whether they will accept you with your GCSEs only they can answer but most applicants will have very good predicted grades and good GCSEs

4 in 7 applicants to this programme received an offer.
