Eligibilty

My daughter is hoping to start a degree in September 2025.

She is a UK citizen from birth (as am I), but she will have lived in the Netherlands for two years prior to starting her degree with you. (Moved to the Netherlands on 28/08/2023).

Up until this date she had resided with me in the UK, we still have a family home in the UK and she will be living in this whilst she studies.

Will she be eligible for student finance (both tuition fees and maintenance) even though she has not lived in the UK for the 3 years prior to starting university?

I am struggling to get a clear answer with this, the uni just says wait and apply for funding and then you will know, but this seems a bit foolish!

Can anyone help with this, all the uni will say is "you will know once you apply"

Thanks for any support

Hi Alihey,

A UK National does not need to meet the 3 year residency criteria as long as they have been living in the EEA for the last 3 years and they are ordinarily resident in the UK on the first day of the first term of their course and have been in the UK at some point since birth. We will ask for an address history from the student to establish this and may ask for evidence.

Thanks,
Claire
