Hi I'll be going back to university to study maths after a placement year. I'm worried that I've forgotten a lot of the basics (calculus, statistics/probability, etc). What would be the best way to get a refresher on all this content over the summer before I return to uni?

Hi @rsen1324 My advice would be to review your old notes from lectures and tutorials and any of the other resources the university gave you. You may find that just the extra trigger of those notes brings everything back to you (similar to how people say it is to ride a bike). This may be alot of notes to go through so it wiould probally be wise to prioritise the topics that will be most relevant to your modules in 3rd year.
Hope this ends up being useful Matthew Student Ambassador

Hi!
I felt the same way before I went back for my final year after my placement! I did some revision of 2nd-year content over the summer (mostly topics that were applicable for my first modules of final year) but I focused more on the more fundamental skills that I didn't use over my placement (for me this was calculus) and I used YouTube for quick refresher summaries on these kinds of topics. I found that once I started my final year things came back to me much quicker than I thought and I didn't feel I had a disadvantage to those who just had a summer break.
I hope that helps and good luck for your final year! 🙂 Florence (Lancaster University student ambassador)
