Dealer wants me to sell organise sale of my old car - legal?

Long story short, I traded in my car worth 10,500 for a car worth 1,600

The cheaper car is faulty and the dealer advised he can do a refund but only if I organise sale of my old car as he does not have the funds to give me a direct refund

My old car is still legally in my name, I called DVLA and checked this also as well as seeing the ownership V5.

So as it's in my name, he wants me to organise sale with lets say Carwow, and then once I receive the money for my old car, I will send him the the money - the 1,600 I paid for my car so I get the refund and he will take away the faulty car

I just want to know, is any of this illegal at all? Or is it fine

It's hard to follow, but all sounds pretty dodgy, why did you even make this trade in the first place for a 1600 car that will almost certainly have issues?

If you still own your old car (weird) why not just return the new/crap car to the seller and walk away with your old car? did they ever actually PAY you the 9k odd for it?

So the 1600 car was listed as running perfectly, it was only after owning for a week I noticed the issues it had, which can be hidden by running the car for a long time which the dealer did.

He did pay me 10,500 for it, but it was on finance, so I got the 1600 car for free, a little towards me then rest to pay off remaining of the finance

I still legally own my old car because he hasn't transferred my old car's ownership yet to himself, which is a little strange I think it is to avoid certain admin fees when he lists the car himself to sell

Does anyone know any illegalities of this

You do not own your old car. Being the registered keeper is not evidence of ownership. You agreed to sell the car to the dealer and he paid you for the car. The car belongs to the dealer.
