Do GCSE grades matter in the top universities?

Hi!
I'm looking at a Geography degree at some of the top universities (KCL, UCL, St Andrews, LSE, etc) and I am wondering if GCSE grades matter to them? I got an A*AABBBBBBB in my GCSE grades and I'm not sure if these are good enough for the universities, or if I should apply to others? (I got an A in maths, A in geography and B in english.
I am currently doing Geography, English Literature and Politics for my A-Levels, and I am achieving the A-Level grades needed to go to them.
Thanks!
Universities like LSE and UCL will look at your GCSEs. It would be sensible to only pick 2 or at most 3 very competitive universities and have 2 slightly less competitive ones as insurance.

Generally Geography isnt particularly over subscribed but places like LSE, UCL and St Andrews tend to be over subscribed for most subjects.

Hello!

At Lancaster the only GCSE grade requirements are a C/4 in Maths and a C/4 in English. Most universities want a basic understanding of maths and English at GCSE but they are obviously more focused on your A Level grades!

Here is the link to the BSc Geography degree at Lancaster where you can see all the entry requirements. https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/geography-bsc-hons-f800/2025/

Hope this helps,

Hi @catherine0713
If you google the entry requirements for the geography course at the universities you want to go to, it should list any GCSE requirements alongside a level requirements.
For instance bsc geography at st. Andrews requires a 5 in English language or English literature and then a 5 another subject which could be either Biology, Chemistry, Computing Science, Geography, Mathematics, Physics or Psychology. Found this information on this website Geography BSc - Subjects - University of St Andrews (st-andrews.ac.uk)
Hope this helps!
