Glasgow student accommodation

Have an offer from University of Strathclyde for masters study in Sep 24. With rent prices through the roof I'm torn between commuting and moving to Glasgow. Does anyone have any recommendations for renting and studying at strathclyde? ie recommendations for letting agents, best areas to stay, student friendly flats etc. Any advice or help is much appreciated. Big luv xo

Hey @Cbtaylor 🙂 What course are you coming to start in September? Congrats on the offer!

If you get in touch with our Accommodation Advice team within the students union they may be able to help: https://www.strathunion.com/support/housing/. You'll find the link for emailing them if you scroll down the page a bit further and they can help with guidance around how our students tend to find it. They also have some useful advice on that page for helping with accommodation. In terms of locations - depending on what you're looking for I'd say you could look in the east end of the city, or the city centre and mostly your commute would be walkable if you're ok to do so. Alternatively if you stay near an underground stop then you could commute from the South Side/West End (although West End can be a bit more expensive).

How far would your commute be, and how much will commuting likely cost you? I guess that's the other thing to weigh up is the costs (both price wise and time wise) that you'd be looking at if you're staying quite far away. Many of our students will commute from across the central belt though so it's not out of the ordinary.

Hi Caitlin,

Thanks for the response! I've a place on the MSc Occupational Psychology. Will be seeking a deferral until 2025 though.

My commute is from Dundee, so about £3.5k-£4.5k for the year's trains, or similar costs for keeping my car and driving. The main problem I'm having is finding petrol friendly accommodation. If I commute then the dog stays at home, but if I decide to move then I'd need somewhere that's pet friendly, which is much harder to find.

Thanks again for your help, I'll be in touch with the accommodation team closer to my start date.

Callum
