Applying for Access to HE with a job

Hi everyone,

I'm not a mature student (18) but i've missed out on a lot of time at sixth form where i was doing a-levels due to mental illness, i wont get into it, and im aware i wont be able to access the course i want till im 19.

the course i want to do is access to he psychology, ive recently applied for a job in a mental health rehab centre for those coming out of long term stays in psych wards and things like that, i know this will be quite a demanding job and ive noticed a lot of people on here say the access to he course is also pretty demanding

so i was just wondering what anyones advice was for next september when i apply to the access course regarding how i would balance a high maintenance job like this and the course?

any help would be super appreciated

thank you )

Hey

First off I wouldn't rule out uni this year just yet. A lot of uni's offer lower entry requirements during clearing when your grades come through so you might make it. Alternatively there is nothing wrong with taking a year out to get some work experience and you certainly won't be the only one.

For next September I'd recommend just being aware of how busy your job is, by then you'll have been in it a year so you should know how much of your time it's going to take up. I'd personally recommend keeping your work to part-time hours so you don't overdo it whilst you study. You can always look at studying your degree part time if that gives you a better work/life balance. It does sound like a really interesting and rewarding job though which will certainly benefit your career in Psychology.

All the best

Mike 🙂
