Selecting my subject combination.

For A-levels, I'd like to select economics and maths. Would Accounting suffice as a third subject? I'm not sure if this combination allows for a wide reach.

P.S: my results would come next month. I didn't perform quite well honestly, so I'd have to work extra hard these years!

I wouldnt recommend taking maths a level if you don’t have a 9 (or at least an 8) at gcse because it’s a big step up. Economics is more of an essay subject at a level and that combination would work well if you want to go into something like finance!

Thats a good combo, dont listen to the people who say “dont pick maths if u dont get an 8 or a 9” i know people who got 6s and 7s and got As and A*s. U just need to make sure u stay ontop of it and do ur own work at home good grades don’t come just like that. If u get into the course definitely do it! This is a great opportunity for u to get into a good university and make ur family proud 😊if u need help lmk- also id recommend just going over some content these holidays just to prepare u abit for y12(something i wish i did😭)

I wouldn't take Accounting - what else are you considering?

A grade 7 in GCSE Maths is what we look for - ignore comments about needing 8/9s.

What do you intend to do after you leave school?
Uni - what subject - or an Apprenticeship?

Maths and economics are both great options, accounting is perhaps not the best option because it does create a rather narrow reach.
What degrees or careers are you considering? If you have any idea I can suggest some options based on that.
Other than that I’d suggest taking a subject which you enjoy, you are confident you can do with and you’re interested in for your future.
If you want a subject which fits well with your other subjects then Id suggest geography, sociology, politics, psychology, physics, chemistry or computer science.
If you want to diversify your options then maybe a science or a humanity will broaden your options depending on your interests.
Hope this helps, and happy to answer any further questions in you have them. Have a great day

I'm aiming perhaps to study BSc Honours in Economics. Or some undergraduate degree in line with economics.

However, I lack experience so currently undecided.

Thank you so much for the feedback!
The subjects you suggested are really helpful, I was honestly very uncertain about accounting, your suggestion motivated me to diversify my option. I did not realize the narrow path I would have gotten into otherwise 😅

As for the degrees, I'm undecided but currently favours an economic degree, BSc Honours.
But I lack experience and understanding, I'm still researching.

All in all, thank you for the insight, have a nice day!! ☺️

You could google for this or ask your teacher for some?

There''s this: https://www.pearson.com/en-gb/schools/subject-resources/mathematics/unrivalled-support/support-from-pearson/gcse-maths-transition-to-a-level.html

Which board?

Which A level though?

A-level Accounting is advised against even if you want to become an accountant.

Perhaps you might benefit from a closely related subject such as politics or philosophy if you’re interested in studying economics? If you aren’t too keen on humanities subjects, you could look at some social sciences, such as psychology, sociology or geography. One thing I wouldn’t recommend doing is studying business, as business and economics is a frowned upon combination at certain universities when applying for economics courses. Since you’re doing maths, you’re in a relatively safe position to pick any subject you wish. Maybe look into the exam boards and specifications for subjects you’re interested in to see if there are any topics you like in particular.

Yes! Thank you. Today a teacher recommended I do Accounting, Business, Economics & Maths because I had good results for my mocks😭😭😭
And it pained me because first of all, Econ AND business when I do not particularly enjoy business. She guilt tripped me by pointing out how I have high marks for business ( averagely 83/100) causing me to seriously wonder if I should take the advice...

Secondly, I'm worried it would be too much work, affecting my grades and overall enjoyment of learning

Maths+econ+another subject seems sensible, the other subject should be something you enjoy but avoid accounting or business I would say.
