Accomodation help

I am from the US and will be doing an exchange year and University of Sheffield starting in the fall. I am trying to figure out living accommodations for next year and am feeling overwhelmed by the various options. I will be entering my third year of university and am looking for sociable environment that also has its balance. I am concerned about living in the uni accommodations (Ranmoor, Endcliffe) because of how loud and crazy they may be. However, I'm also concerned about living in city (Allen Court) or private accommodations because I don't want to feel isolated. I can see that private accommodations tend to be cheaper and I think I'd rather be close to the city itself but I don't want to sacrifice my social life. Advice?

Hiya,

Congratulations on your offer!

While Endcliffe and Ranmoor do host a large majority of the student population, there are quieter flats that are offered too you will be able to find in the portal options I believe. Ranmoor also has a smaller student village so this might be more of a preference. Also, by staying in city accommodation, it is by no means isolating yourself as there is a lot to do in the city and there are residence life mentors that host events that allow you to meet other residents. I stayed in Allen Court my first year and I loved my experience.

In terms of social life, it is what you make it. While Endcliffe and Ranmoor might offer more opportunities that to meet people due to the number of students, it is easy to meet people through societies as well and there are plenty of social spaces in the city centre as well.

I hope this has helped and let me know if you have any more questions!

I am French and I will study 1 year in Sheffield from September. What advice would you give me for mobile phone and internet plans? Should I take 1 on the spot? With which operator? Thank you
