0.7% away from a 1st class (KINGS)

I received my university results yesterday. I studied Biomedical Science at King's. My overall grade was a 69.3% and was awarded an upper 2.1
To say I am gutted is an understatement. I've emailed a few people and it seems this is stuck and I will not be bumped to a first class.
I worked tremendously hard but am feeling quite sad by the result.
I will be going to Imperial this October to study Medicine so I am trying to be hopeful.

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and how they handled it?

Unfortunately, according to KCL's Academic Regulations 2023/24:

"5.48. Module marks shall be rounded up (≥ 0.5) or rounded down (<0.5) to the nearest integer. The final overall degree classification score shall be rounded up (≥ 0.5) or rounded down (<0.5) to the nearest integer before the final classification of the award is made."

So they'll see that 69.3% as a 69%. :frown:

Interestingly, those same regulations also say:
"5.55. For students who achieve a Third-Class Honours or above and who fall within 2 per cent of a higher classification band (68/58/48), an upgrade will be applied automatically on condition that students have achieved a higher classification in at least 60 credits at level 6 or above in their final year."

That paragraph is beneath a heading which says, "Undergraduate Degrees, including Integrated Masters but excluding MB BS and BDS". It therefore seems like it should apply to you.

So, did you achieve a first in at least 60 credits at Level 6 in your final year? If so, I would ask about why paragraph 5.55 has not been followed.

unfortunately not. thank you for your help. you dont suppose emailing individual module leads may help? im wondering if i can ask for a 1-2% boost because that would secure me the 1st. it is so disappointing but i think i have to come to terms with it.

That's a shame. No, I don't think e-mailing individual modules leads will help. They're not simply going to change your mark in order to help you secure a first. That really would be very fair or ethical.

You say you're starting at Imperial in October. That's good, because it gives you an opportunity to focus on the future rather than dwelling on the past.
