Oxford places

How does Oxford deal with missed offers places? Is there a summer pool equivalent? Surely everyone can’t make their offers?

there is roughly a 80% acceptance rate (people who end up actually enrolling). this varies very little year by year, so when giving out offers they will give out more than the number of entrants they anticipate. they also give out ‘open offers’ to prevent any particular college from being undersubscribed.

There is no summer pool. As mentioned, there is an open offer system. Missed grades are dealt with on an individual basis. You may get very lucky on the day (I was - I was accepted with AAB (or what would have been A*A*B) back in 2007) but I sincerely would advise you not to count on it :nah:

Thank you, no hope here as already rejected, just curious.

Ah ok. Hope you're not thinking you might somehow be able to nab a last-min place at Oxford on results day, as that's not how it works :nah:

I know I was rejected but not quite that stupid or unrealistic. Just curious as Cambridge have summer pool.

I was just checking because some people are a bit overoptimistic (we've had threads along those lines in the past!). Yes, the summer pool system is where Cambridge and Oxford differ quite a bit :yep:

Thank you for your reply. I am debating, if I do as well as predicted in my exams, whether to think about taking a gap year and reapplying but as course is for stem aware that can be frowned on.
Also not sure the exams went that well! Ahh well always PG. Is there a pill that can stop you dreaming of the Oxbridge spires?😂

I dunno much about Comp Sci or Phil as subjects. I guess whether you should consider reapplying depends on what your insurance place is? Generally my advice to people it to not reapply. Some reapplicants do get in (or people get in by switching from Oxford one year to Cambridge the next year, or vice versa) but not all do. It's a big risk to take a gap year solely/mainly for that, when we have so many world-class unis and departments dotted around the UK, imho :h:
