mocks

Hi guys,

I have the summer (6/7 weeks) before my final mocks to decide my predicted grades. I'm currently ABBB (maths, chem, bio and politics respectively) based on my summer mocks. Maths, bio, chem all Edexcel and politics AQA.

I'm aiming for all As or above for September. My politics teacher has already said he'd predicting me an A and I'm fairly confident I can do the same for maths and bio. Regardless, I'm still going to keep pushing myself.

So does anyone have any solid advice, secret tips, must dos etc to use in these final weeks? I am already doing practice questions and flashcards and past papers so any advice aside from this would be greatly appreciated.

Also if you've cracked the code to politics structuring please let me know because I'm very inconsistent 😭

Thanks so much

I'm a fellow politics student and if you're looking for a good structure, I personally use the PEACE structure. This stands for point, evidence, analysis, counterpoint and evaluation. I do Edexcel politics so we have 30 mark essays and 24 mark essays for ideologies questions. I know you do AQA so this is probably not that helpful, but I believe the essay structure is somewhat similar. For 30 markers, I'll repeat this 3 times and essentially use the counterpoint to strengthen my argument by either defeating it entirely or acknowledging it's strengths but arguing that my points overall are still stronger. For 24 markers I do this twice but the way I do ideologies essays is slightly different obviously as some of the evidence is just quotes from key thinkers or things I've picked out from their ideas. For reference, I've been using this structure all year and getting As, got an A* in my end of year mock and I am predicted an A* currently. Since your mocks are after the election, I would use that as a big source for information. Because politics is a subject that is based around what is happening in the present, keeping up to date with current affairs is definitely useful. If I were you, I'd look to recent BBC articles and headlines about what Labour are getting up to already in government. My biggest tip would be to make essay plans if you struggle with structure and organising your thoughts, as the more times you do this the more you'll find that certain points can be reused in many essays. Wishing you the best of luck in your other subjects and if you have any other questions for me I'd be happy to answer

Ah we actually aren't having another mock for politics (shouldve mentioned that lol my bad) but I did make sure to include all the debates. I'm happy with my A so it's all good there. Regardless thank you so much for the advice! My problem was that I very much like to write whatever I want rather than follow a structure 😂 because this is what I did for GCSE and I did really well for those essays subjects. It's worked at some points this year but is clearly not sustainable. So I will definitely try this out! Thanks again ☺️

Any advice for just memorising general content? I think this is actually more my problem because when I have enough to write about the waffling is excellent no matter what order it's in. But I feel like making endless mindmaps is not productive. Much appreciated
