Leeds private student accomodations - Passport Request

Hi, I am an international student from Canada who is looking for a private student accomodation near the University of Leeds. I have found Austin Hall and Asquith House with Mansion Student and they have asked me to provide my passport information when signing their contract online. I was wondering if this is a common practice when booking private student accomodations through this company or if I should beware of a possible scam?

It is usual to provide your passport information if renting private accommodation. It is used to confirm identity.
