New job hasn’t asked for any info and pays cash in hand

I recently started a new job in a pub and they haven’t asked me for any information apart from my phone number. No ID or NI number…. Is this illegal? They also pay cash in hand so how are the taxes worked out?

I’m very cautious of this as I’m wanting a future in the police this was just something to keep me going after graduating and I’m now worrying it’s dodgy.

How can I protect myself I. This situation… I’m earning around £180 a week so not sure what the situation on tax is and I’m only planning on staying around 3 months… is there anything I need to do??

You'll either be responsible for notifying HMRC regarding tax and national insurance contributions while you are working with this employer.

You can ask the employer for proof of them actually paying any thing to HMRC or perhaps contact HMRC yourself about it.

So work out the amount of hours you do per week into the amount you are receiving to get a rough £ per hour you are getting.

Don't be worrying about police or HMRC knocking your door 🚪...... You are legally bound to notify HMRC about your income if your employer is not doing it....... Sort it out asap for your own sake and get a job that gives you a payslip each month and pay you through the bank 🏦 🏧.
