Anxious over results day GCSE

I know results day is ages away but I feel so nervous and anxious recently, last week I was completely find but for some reason it just hit me. I’m really really scared, I applied to grammar schools outside of my current school and I’m so scared they will reject me because my grades will be bad. I am considering further maths a level, but I really don’t think I will even get a 9 in GCSE so I won’t be able to (that has me genuinely crying I really messed up for those papers). I literally can’t stop worrying, all I can imagine is my parents being disappointed I didn’t even get the option between a grammar school and my current one, and the idea that even if I wanted to do further maths I won’t be able to because of my GCSE grade :frown:
Hi,

I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling this way. Please take comfort in the fact it's completely normal to feel scared, worried and anxious during the run-up to results and you won't be the only one feeling this way. I'd suggest...

1.

Talking to your friends. They’re probably feeling just as nervous as you about getting their results.

2.

Tell your parents how you feel. They will have taken exams too and remember exactly what it was like waiting for results. They might have some good advice.

3.

Take your mind off results day by going to do something you enjoy. Spend time with friends, mooch around the shops, go to the cinema and see a film that makes you laugh.

4.

Do something active. Exercise releases endorphins, which make you feel happier. It doesn’t have to be hard-core. Take the dog for a walk, or play Wii games.

5.

Come up with a plan B. Sometimes things don't go our way but it's not the end of the world. There will be other options for you. Yes, exam results are important, but staying mentally healthy is a priority. Exams can always be retaken.

Try not to catastrophise and imagine your life will be ruined if you don’t do as well as you hoped.

Above all, be kind to yourself. Don’t beat yourself up about what you didn’t do or should have done. All the worry in the world can’t change the past.

I wish you the best of luck!

I know it's hard, but you need to try and take pressure and stress off yourself. If your family and friends are putting pressure on you, then you need to ignore it and focus on only YOU. You are the most important person when it comes to what you achieve and what you want to achieve.

Friends, family and other people can muddle up how you're meant to feel for yourself, so try taking a step back and focus on you.

Expectations are another issue I think you may need to address because high expectations can lead to disappointment, so keeping them low ensures that you won't feel the impact as much if you don't achieve what you desire.

School can make us think that exams are crucial to success, but the truth is you can be successful at most things without the highest grades.

I've faced anxiety about exam grades before many times, but the truth is life moves on and time makes you stronger, you just have to gain the self-confidence to realize that you can do whatever you want to do, and make sure that you focus on you because it's your success that's the priority here.
