AQA sociology: if you need help or resources ask away here.

Hi, ive just finished the 2024 A levels and finished my 2 years of AQA sociology. I wish someone had helped me when i was in y12 and y13 so here i am helping any incomming y12s and y13s. I was predicted an A but they grossly underpredicted me. I sat the 2023 AS level and got an A and the highest in my year (100/120). In August im looking to get an A* and at worst an A.

I have resources to give, tips and tricks and any other questions. Also I know what examiners want because I had a senior examiner come in for 2 days and teach us and told us what examiners really like and look for in A and A* students.

So with all that said and done, ASK AWAY!

Can you give me any advice about structuring answers for any of the questions please?? I want to get my grade up and that is largely my issue when it comes to exams.

So firstly when completing the paper tp begin with do 20/30 and then 10m first and then work down to smaller questions. However of you see oh i dont like that 10 but i like the 4 and 6 then go for the 4 and 6 but i flicked through my paper quick and chose questions i liked forst as it helped me get into the mindset and ready for harder ones.

10m structure:
10m with an item - EVALUATE
10m no item - DONT EVALUATE.

The ms are different for both those 10m

20m you need a minimum of 3 paragraphs but if you can do 4 thats better
30m minimum of 4 paragraphs but if you can do 5 thats better

30m structure:
Always include the item once in every paragraph and make it obvious so irs easy for the examiner to see

PEELE structure so point evidence explanation link and evaluation

Evidence = sociologist, theory or law

Explanation = use key terms here as much as you can but obviously dont go off track because AQA love key terms. Basicly i had a senior examiner come in and tell us the stuff they liked. AlsoAO2 AQA love it when you apply real life stuff like covid, jamie bulgar case, AI, elections whatever it is in your answers. The rest of explanation i think is self explanatory its just explaining your evidence

Link = tie in what you explained to what the question is asking. Basicly imagine it as tieing a bow on a basket. You need to tie in everything nicely but simply together. Keep it short and sweet but still a good link like 2 sentences is a good amount imo.

Evaluate is your critisisms. However, AQA actually are impressed if you can do both critisism and strength in your 30m for evals. Not in the same paragraph but across the essay in general as it shows greater depth and understanding rather than spouting out a bunch of memorised stuff.

10m normal = PEEL
10m item = PEELE
10m are 2 paragraphs and no more as well

Also only use one sociologist or theory per paragraph. As when you use more then 1 you will go off track and start writibg about stuff not even relating to the questions properly. Keep yours answered detailed but as short and sweet and too the point as you can as it saves time and looks better. They dont wanna read 5 sentences of absolute waffle so judge the lengths of your paragraphs by how you feel when it comes to depth your putting in. Also you dont need to write absolutely everything in one para about one theory or sociologist just what is actually relevant to the question.

Hope this all helps, sorry its quite a lot but theres a lot of things i was taught and told and worked out myself over 2 years that led to me getting A*s in sociology

Im glad to of helped someone. I wish there was someone who helped me back when i started A levels. Also heres a gift. 2 years of work in there and exam questions i answered. Might help to see if you can see what i wrote above in actual practice. Crime and deviance questions i answered are especially good but ignore 4 and 6 markers i wrote for C&D because my last teacher was so bad when it came to 4 and 6ms. 10,20 and 30s was where i always shined.
