PGCE & Student finance

Hi,

I am an irish student who has just completed my 4 year undergraduate degree at LJMU. I am wondering if I am eligible to apply for student finance for my PGCE and if so am i eligible for a tuition loan & maintenance loan ? I have lived in England for 3 years.

Thanks.

Hi there,

Can you confirm the full name of the course, what university will you attend and the duration of the course? Do you hold Qualified Teacher Status? With your previous course did you get funding from us and was it just the Tuition Fee Loan?

Thanks, Drew

Hi there,

If you have lived in England for 3 years prior to the start of your course and will be ordinarily resident in England on the 1st day of the 1st academic year of your course you should be eligible to apply for the Tuition Fee Loan and the Maintenance Loan. Have you previously applied as an EU student?

Thanks, Drew

Hi there,

If your course starts 24/25 you would need to apply on paper PN1 Form found here Application for student finance for new students 2024/25 (publishing.service.gov.uk) then post this back to the address on the form with your ID. Applications can take 6-8 weeks to process once we have everything.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi there,

As you are linked to EU you will need to complete a paper application called a PN1 form. Is it for the 2024/25 academic year?

Thanks, Drew

Hi,

I have filled out the PN1 form and sent it back to student finance. They have asked for me to provide my address history from this past 3 years and write my customer reference number on top of the page. I don’t have a customer reference number. My previous applications were for the EU student finance. Do I use my reference number from that?

Hi there,

Yes. It'll be the same account you use. The reference number will not change for you.

Thanks,
Ross

Thank you for your response. One more question. My parents have received this email

“You need to send us more information to support an application for student finance thanks for sending us your financial information to support application for student finance. We’re sorry, but we can’t accept your declaration because you’ve put an invalid date. What you need to do Sign and date the attached declaration page and upload a copy of it to your online account at www.gov.uk/student-finance-register-login Alternatively, you can complete the attached declaration form and ask to upload it using their account.

We’re a bit confused on what we need to do? Is it just sign and date the declaration page or complete the whole document again? Is it ok to post this back to student finance?

Thanks

Hi,

I assume your parent's completed section 12 of the application to provide their income to support your application.

If it's just the declaration this will need to be sent to us by post.

Thanks,
Ross

Hi, I sent my evidence on 10th of September. I haven’t heard anything since. I’m just wondering how long the time frame is after sending evidence?

Thanks

Hi there,

We're currently processing evidence in 25 working days, so you should hear back in the next 1-2 weeks, if not before.

When you login is there an expected processing date showing?

Thanks, Graeme

Okay, thanks - it still sounds like you'll hear back within a week or two.

However, if there's still nothing by the end of next week it may be worth calling us on 0300 100 0607 so we can check this.

Thanks, Graeme
