Drugs reputation?

I am interested in applying to study at Bristol, as the city seems beautiful, the course looks good and there seem to be strong career prospects for graduates. The only thing really putting me off is that it seems to have quite a drug heavy reputation (I saw an article for instance suggesting 70% of students have tried cannabis). Is this really the case? I am really not a big partying person, and defo am not interested in drugs or really drinking - would it be a lot harder to fit in and make friends at this uni if I don't want to participate in or really be friends with people who do this? Obviously I know not everyone would be like this, and I know a few people probably do drugs at most, if not all, unis, but 70% is pretty high...

Bristol will be a fine place to study. At any uni there will be a reasonable proportion of people who want to try cannabis. There will also be a lot of people that don’t. In my experience it was more of a thing in shared houses where like minded people have chosen to live together. You can certainly avoid this all together or keep it at the periphery of the student experience. The variety of societies alone allows you to tailor how you socialise and who you meet

I think that the '70% of students have tried cannabis' doesn't necessarily mean they do it regularly, out of that 70% most might have only tried it a few times, Bristol students have said the drugs are no better or worse than other unis and that this drugs reputation is mainly because of skins. Drugs are a part of uni culture but I do think it's easy to avoid and find friends who aren't into that, same with partying. If you join a society of a hobby you enjoy you are likely to find like-minded people

Sure, some students might experiment with things like cannabis, but that doesn’t define the whole university experience. When I was in university, I wasn’t big on partying either. But I found a great group of people who were more into studying, outdoor activities, and just hanging out.

I’d like to know what proportion of the population under 25 have tried cannabis. Then you’d have something to compare. « Tried » doesn’t mean are regular users. My Granny may well have tried it but I know for a fact she isn’t a regular user, or even an occasional user for that matter!

There is drugs in every major UK city and in many if not all towns. Drugs are a thing if you go looking for them and that scene.

Bristol is amongst the finest city to be for students and probably one of the best Universities to study at.
