ELQ Exempt courses

I have just been accepted to study Radiotherapy and Oncology at UWE although I had applied to Radiography foundation year. Basically I applied to the foundation year for Diagnotic Radiography and was accepted but I would have not been able to get a loan for that one year as I hold a foundation year qualification already. Luckily the university reached out and said that I am eligible to go straight onto year 1 but Diagnostic Radiography is at capacity so they offered me to go onto the radiotherapy course. I accepted this change of course so that I did not have to worry about money (due to the course being exempt from elq) but now I am slowly regretting this decision as I am not sure if I would enjoy this course as much especially when considering my future job prospects.

I would like to ask if anyone knows that the rule of being ELQ exempt is university specific or that if it just has to have same course code so that I can still be guaranteed a full sfe loan. This is because I would like to see if it is still possible to consider a different university.

What qualification do you currently hold?

How many years of previous study do you have?

Hi there,

Do you already hold an undergraduate qualification? Would it be a Radiotherapy and Oncology at a different university? What university would you attend?

Thanks, Drew

I have used 2 years of loan when I studied Bsc forensic psychology but then I dropped out and didn’t complete. I am possibly looking to study Radiography at City university of london but not sure if a second loan applies depending on the uni. As I knew that at UWE I am definitely able to get another full loan for the entirety of the degree.

But yes to sum up, it would be nice to study Radiography at a university that offers a full sfe loan for someone with circumstances like me.

Radiotherapy and Oncology is an exception AHP course so you should be eligible for undergraduate funding (both tuition fee and maintenance loans) despite your previous study. You will also be eligible to apply for the training grant and specialist subject payment from the NHS LSF (£6,000 per year).

(Also, in response to your concerns in your first post, the career prospects are excellent and you will have better work hours than a DR - no night or weekend shifts ).

Thank you for the response! Just wondering, what options of postgrad degrees would be available after Radiotherapy and Oncology? And are there a variety of different jobs I could get into? Could I also get into corporate jobs after this?

Hi Nicole,

We can only discuss Student Finance England funding on here. You would be best speaking to your university directly regarding this.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi,

could I also ask if the loan is guaranteed depending on the university? like if with one university with radiotherapy and oncology you can get a loan with previous years of study, will all universities with that same course do the same?

Hi there,

You would need to provide what university you want to attend, the full name of the course and how many years it would last so we can check if it is an exception course.

Thanks, Drew
