Where to live during post-grad?

UK Student, 28 years old and offered a PhD at the University in Plant Science.

I'd prefer to stay at post-grad halls for a year with an ensuite (I did this in my Masters to make sure I had decent internet), but I'm unsure whether it exists and I'm aware that I'm quite a bit older than even most new post-grads. It seems a headache to find shared private accomdation without knowing the area however and that maybe Ustinov is my best choice.

Anyone have any experiences or recommendations?

Cheers

Hiya,

Congratulations on your offer! There are quite a few colleges that offer ensuite rooms and postgraduate rooms are single occupancy from what I know. I know Cuths Parsons Field (ensuite) had a floor for postgraduate students but the availability may be limited. Ustinov does seem to be the preferred option as it is a postgraduate only college and offers a lot more ensuite rooms for postgraduates.
You can have a look through the accommodation at Ustinov on here.

Alternatively, there are a range of private halls/accommodations that offer ensuite/studio flats that are also a great option. There's Unite students, Dun holm house, prestige student living, student castle, etc. Although there a bit pricey, they're a great alternative if you're looking for private studio/ensuite options. I know you mentioned wanting to avoid shared accommodation but there's a facebook group where you can look for flat/house mates and it be may worth checking to see if there's accommodation available on there as well. 🙂 Durham is quite small so its not too bad trying to navigate around the city.
Durham Uni Find a Housemate

Best of luck and I hope this helps!

Spend first year in halls and hopefully you will make friends and take it from there No point sharing with strangers in a strange environment and can feel quite lonely as a PG.

Thanks for the responses, Ustinov seems likely the best choice for me. Anywhere I could find more information about it?
