rly bad predicted grades for medicine

Hi, I’m currently in yr12 and I do bio, chem and maths (the holy trinity), exam boards are Edexcel for maths and chem then ocr a for bio and we just did our set of mocks and my predicted grades are CCE (E in chem). I do so well in class, topic tests and hw but when it comes to mocks I do so bad in them.
I have always wanted to med, but ik I have no chance bcs of my predicted grades.
Anyways, we have another set of tests in September that could potentially increase my predicted grades. Does anyone have any tips?
Also I’m taking the UCAT, any tips for that asw?
What do you guys think my next steps should be with these crap grades?
Any extra tips?? Plss

For maths, make a list of all the topics and rank them depending on how confident you are in them. If you aren't strong in certain topics, watch YouTube videos (like Bicen Maths or GCSE Maths Tutor) and make sure you understand the topic, then do PMT topic questions on that topic. Start with the easiest questions and work your way up. I think with many topics in maths, the textbook questions are way easier than the actual exam questions, which might be why you did worse in the mocks than in topic tests. If that's not the reason, then practice doing questions in exam conditions.

I don't do the other two subjects, but I know some people who have missed the medicine predicted grade requirements and so did medicine foundation courses instead (which progress onto medicine). If your predicteds don't improve, bang out your A-level grades and reapply with your actual grades after taking a gap year?

You have several options here -
1) Go and talk to teachers and ask for their help/advice about 'what to do next'.
2) Work your socks off over the summer and drag this out of the fire.
3) Forget UCAS this year and just work on your A levels, then apply for 2026 entry in a gap year if your grades are good enough.
4) Forget Medicine, and look at another degree area like Nursing or Allied Health - We are allied health professionals | Health Careers or alternatives like Royal Navy | Medical (mod.uk)

Omgg tysm, yeah I think I was mainly doing the textbook qs bcs it was in my comfort zone and I felt good everytime I did it. But I had no idea it was easier than actual exams

Thank you for your advice but most of my teachers are telling me to retake yr12 with different subjects but I pretty much hate essay based subjects so yeah. Thank you for the alternatives, I’ll definitely keep them in mind!

Hey I’m in year 12, I just got my mocks back and got an A in Bio and Chem If you’re starting revision from scratch (as in making your revision material) I’d suggest using Miss Estruch for making flashcards, then when you do past paper questions for topics you’ll see key words and phrases that are needed to score marks When you see these amend your flashcards so that they’re specific to the biology markscheme. After you’ve learned the AO1 do lots of ppqs

For chemistry I watched Allery chemistry and made flashcards as well as chemrevise, if I’m still struggling on understanding a topic after these two resources I watch thechemistrytutor on youtube. Again after learning the content do lots & lots of ppqs.

When revsing for your end if yr mocks u should be doing full past papers atp & should have all ur revision resources completed (ie don’t start making flashcards/notes etc right before your exams)

hope this helped!!

Just max out on all the past papers you can do and make a note of everything you learnt/didn’t know from that past paper. Trust, it’s the only way you can improve in math/science subjects. Ignore textbook questions because they are usually very basic and nothing like an actual past paper question. Other than that, for all the topics you don’t understand well, dissect it and do questions according to each bit you don’t understand. Good luck!
