Can I use well-known abbreviations in my personal statement?

Hey guys, I am hoping to apply for an undergraduate course in physics and wanted to know if we are allowed to use well-known abbreviations in physics in your personal statement. For example, I mention CERN without completely expanding it because its long, complicated and in French. Am I allowed to do this, since CERN is known to all physicsts?

CERN is better known to everyone as CERN and not the full name. It’s fine to use in a PS
