Hi there,

Can you confirm the full name of the course, what university will you attend and the duration of the course? Do you have any previous study or already hold an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification?

Thanks, Drew

But I don’t have any qualifications I don’t think? But I did study a different course for two years, one as a foundation year and one as a normal year

I called two members of your team this morning and both confirmed I wouldn’t receive funding unless it’s through the ambulance service trust, what can I do as I really want to do this course but can’t afford to pay my tuition fee for this year

Hi there,

Paramedic Science courses are only classed as an exception if the student is entitled to funding from the Ambulance Service Trust. If you are not eligible for the Ambulance Service Trust then we take your previous study into consideration. You’re entitled to funding for the length of your course, plus 1 additional year, minus any years of previous study you have. Here’s the calculation we used: 3+1-2=2 years of Tuition Fee Loan left and this would be applied to 2nd and 3rd year. You would need to self fund 1st year for the Tuition Fee Loan. You can apply for the Maintenance Loan and Supplementary Grants if applicable to you for the 3 years.

Thanks, Drew

Hi,
How would I know if I am an exception? How would I go about finding that out? I called the Yorkshire ambulance service trust and they had no idea what I was talking about, please could you elaborate how to find out whether I am entitled or not

Hi there,

I do not know the Ambulance Service Trust number. I would advise you to speak to the university to see if they can guide you or you can google Ambulance Service Trust to see if you can get a contact number that way.

Thanks, Drew

Hi,

I did contact them and as I said they didn’t seem to know what I was speaking about. If I find that I am entitled, what do I do then? Do I apply for sfe as normal for the maintenance loan

HI there,

Yes you would apply as normal on your online account.

Thanks, Drew

Last question, if I am not entitled to it and I applied normally, would I only get tuition fee? What I’m asking is that if I’m unable to guarantee whether or not I’m eligible for funding from them, could I just apply for sfe and hope for the best or is that a bad idea? Because currently I’m not having much luck

Hi there,

If you look at my previous message I have explained what you would be entitled to in regards to the Tuition Fee Loan and the Maintenance Loan.

Thanks, Drew

I understand, however I am struggling to find out whether or not I’m entitled. If I can’t confirm if I am but I apply through sfe anyways, would it be possible I am entitled to be funded by the ambulance trust and that I get both the tuition fee and maintenance loan paid by SFE, or do I HAVE to get into contact with them to confirm my eligibility

Hi there,

If you are not eligible for the Ambulance Service Trust then you will not get the Tuition Fee Loan for the 1st year but will be eligible for the 2nd and 3rd year. You would be eligible for the Maintenance Loan for all 3 years. If you are eligible for the Ambulance Service Trust you will get the Tuition Fee Loan for the course and will get a Reduce Rate Maintenance Loan from us. You may also get funding from the Ambulance Service Trust as well for Maintenance.

Thanks, Drew
@m09nbby Bear in mind that you will also be able to apply for the NHS Learning Support Fund training grant of £5,000 per year if you are going to study your course at a uni in England. This could help towards paying your tuition fee in year one.
