Freshers week is the week prior to lectures starting, but you'll already have moved into your accommodation by then hopefully.

Hiya!

It's great to hear that you will be starting university soon, and I hope you are excited!

This may differ slightly for each university but this is to just get a general idea. At De Montfort University, the upcoming Academic Year will run from the 30th September 2024 (and this is when teaching and assessments will begin for majority of our programmes)

For UK Home students, the Welcome Week / Freshers takes place a week before this, with an Induction week and is expected to commence the 23rd September. Fresher events may last from a week up to two weeks usually.

For International students Welcome Week will be the week before 23rd September.

Important dates and information will be uploaded to university websites soon, and I am sure you will also get an email - so keep an eye out!

Be careful of Fresher scams, which happen on Whatsap or Facebook. I would recommend having a look at the University website for official and trustworthy events 😃

I hope this has helped, and cleared up any confusion

Hi Anon,
The big social freshers events tend to happen in the week before you course starts teaching. Usually you will move into your accommodation and have a week called 'freshers week' to settle in to university and lots of big social events will happen in this week.

Hi there

University events usually start during fresher's week - which is the week before term start/ any teaching take place. 🙂 If you are unable to make this, do not worry! As there will be many ice-breaker sessions hosted by different student groups and communities in the weeks following. There are many opportunities to participate in events during University, and to make friends. 🙂

Hi there,

Everything kicks off with freshers week in September. This is usually the week before your course starts so that you have some time to settle in and explore! Then you'll usually have a dedicated afternoon (normally Wednesday) throughout the semester for society activities.

I hope that answers your questions!

All the best,

Hi Anon,

I see you have already had loads of great responses! 😊

I just want to reiterate that events do often take part during 'freshers week'. This normally begins around the 23rd of September.

If your thinking of events other than freshers events, there is often more held throughout the university year.

Details on the dates of the freshers fairs and other events will be/are soon to be on your chosen university's student union website or university website.

I hope this helped, please feel free to ask me any questions,

Hi 👋

Social events happen all through the year and are a really great way to make friends.

In my opinion, they are some of the best moments of your university life.

Hope this helps,

Hello,
As a university student, I can tell you that events like Freshers' Week are normally held at the beginning of the academic year, rather than over the summer holidays. Freshers' Week is aimed to welcome new students and assist them adjust to university life. Typical activities include orientation sessions, campus tours, club and society fairs, social events, and parties.
In addition to Freshers' Week, other activities throughout the year include Halloween parties, Christmas balls, sporting events, and academic conferences. Universities frequently have a vibrant student life, with several possibilities to participate, meet new people, and make the most of your time there.
So, if you're concerned about being away from school throughout the summer, you won't miss out on these events. Everything really gets going once the term begins!
Best of luck with your university experience!
I hope this is helpful.
