Dropping Half of Dual Honours

Hi,

I’ve got a mate who’s considering dropping half of their dual honour degree and wants advice on whether they’re likely to have to retake the first year.

They’re a first year student on media and communications at CCCU and wants to drop communications over the summer before the 2nd academic year in September.

I’ve said to him that since first year doesn’t count towards the final grade, it might not be a problem.

Could anyone advise on this please?

Thanks

Surely they won't have enough module credits to continue. They need to talk to the university.

Yeah, that’s what I thought but from what I can see, our uni offers the media course as single honours. So, if only the module credits from 2nd and 3rd year count, if he progresses straight on to the 2nd year of just media and continues as a full time single honours, by my maths he would be okay for credits? (60 year 2 - 60 year 3- 120 Total).

Also, yeah I’ve told him to contact his course director.

Thanks

Yes but you usually need to pass a certain number of credits in year 1 and they won't have enough media ones.

Hi,

Yes it would definitely be advised that they talk to their course director who will be able to advise them of their options from there! 😊
