MTG - Bloomburrow

Magic: The Gathering's 101st expansion, Bloomburrow, is due for full release on August 2nd, 2024. Paper pre-release starts ahead of digital on July 26th, while MTG Arena gets the set on July 30th. But previews are already available!

This is the first set to feature the plane of Bloomburrow, a world entirely populated by tiny anthropomorphic animals, with no humanoids at all. Squirrels, frogs, bats, rabbits, mice, rats, lizards, raccoons, otters and birds are the main creature types that the cards will focus on, each taking one of MTG's 10 colour pairs, but there are plenty of other species represented too!

Feel free to share your thoughts, predictions, excitement, fears, cute small animal noises, or anything else (topic-related!) in this thread~

Oh yes! That's something else I forgot to link to in the OP: the story is available to read, listen to as a podcast, or watch with accompanying art from the set on YouTube! All linked here:

PRSOM
My favourite new card so far: Season of the Burrow

I struggle to think of any circumstances where making 5 rabbits is the wrong answer, but nice to have some flexibility I guess!
Fabled Passage will be returning to Standard! I love the new art.

I love this art. Should work nicely with my rabbit tokens EDH deck, too!

THis is so cute

The first two abilities work on any token so decks that spam treasure tokens might get a lot of mileage out if it :O

Also although really awkward colour wise if you find a way to combine it with the rat warlock, doubling up your super snail token and sacrificing the token copy is cool as you get to keep your chunky snail token

Or even just doing the regular snail token and copy token which might do a ton of damage to opponents while also drawing a huge number of cards
Apparently the previews are all done, though Scryfall isn't fully updated yet. I've seen roughly 10 rabbit / rabbits matters cards that I'm definitely going to need for my deck, not all of them upgrades in terms of power level, but absolutely in terms of flavour (not in the eating sense!) and cuteness.

I think this Commander precon card is my favourite. 1 card and a 1/1 is pretty awful if nobody else takes the offer, so I'll have to get a diverse range of rabbit tokens to make it more appealing.

I love this card concept :biggrin:Bunnies all round!!
Missed these yesterday - old Commander staples, with new bunny art!

I already have older versions of these three in my Cadira deck, but I'll have to replace them with the Bloomburrow art if they don't end up expensive.

...I should also probably go through the main set and Commander cards again, but look at the non-rabbit stuff this time. :colondollar:

Bit late going through these, but honestly I feel like this set has some of the BEST swamp land art ever. Finally I won't feel bad if I play B!

Spoiler

I really like Wick the Whorled Mind, it's a bit sad most of the other rats don't seem to specifically synergise with him other than Vren the Relentless. Not sure how I feel about the whole "rats do nothing until 7 cards in discard pile" trend for most of them. I'm generally not a huge fan of self-mill/discard strategies lol

Also I think the Duo cards are very cute, and I like the flavour text on them a lot :h:

The duos are great, agreed! In terms of lands, I really like the full art ones for this set, the seasonal theme reminds me of the old Mishra's Factory and Urza's Tower variants.

Yeah I love the seasonal cycles for the lands too!

The swamps for those are also great  but even the deck lands are nice too, I really like the Mussel "forest" swamps

Kind of wish they'd done a full set of 2 colour lands too...actually I really wish they still did blocks and we would have a whole block of Bloomburrow

Probably my favourite setting since Ixalan!
@artful_lounger - You called it with Ygra, Eater of All!

Oh wow that's even nastier than I was expecting and at least the way he explains it, sounds not overly difficult to implement! Although idk how popular pioneer is

I figured even outside of the "food" aspect just making everything artifacts as well as creatures might lead to some shenanigans too, if in e.g. UBG since UB has a lot of weird ways to do things with artifacts as I recall

This is pretty neat though even if limited to pioneer (for now...)

This sets treasure token is so cute as well

Ooh, I hadn't seen that token, that's adorable!

Also another potentially interesting interaction - Hazel's Brewmaster gives all foods all abilities of creatures she has exiled, and Ygra makes all creatures foods too...might be a neat (maybe less obviously game breaking xd) interaction
