Finance at Lancaster Uni

Original post by Ghostlady
My eldest is at Lancaster and Youngest put Lancaster as one of her 5 this year. She too needed AAB for Zoology, and shes ABC at the moment.
Lancaster is relatively cheaper compared to the likes of London or some unis that have extortionate accommodation fees.
I think you should take a look at your 5 options and weigh them up. With youngest she did not want to take the risk of having Lancaster as a firm, and had Reading Firm BBB/Chester insurance BBC. She felt Lancaster was out of reach and the other two unis had a better course. But thats just her.
If Lancaster is beating everyone else on course/uni/city etc, and you think you can get that BBB (they may let you in with a 1 grade drop, or you can push one of them to an A) then yes its worth having it as a firm, providing you have a uni with around BBB/BBC as insurance.

Hi,
This is a helpful post.
My eldest wants to study finance and their official requirements are AAB. He will probably be predicted ABB. Is he likely to be rejected outright, or might he still get an offer if they like his personal statement?

I.m trying to find out if they do a Firm Choice Scheme and would therefore give him an ABB offer alongside AAB

Its worth putting down an aspirational uni as a choice as they could lower the grades. The eldest is graduating from lancaster next week. Youngest was AAB, and they reduced it down by one grade around a month after the offer was given. She ended up taking a gap year in the end as she wanted to be more closer to home. If you have 5 choices on UCAS and you have a uni you love which is one grade higher, its worth having at least one uni as that option.
