Applying to an Undergrad Course with a Year in Industry?

Hi! I just finished year 12, so I'm doing some uni research, and I'm seeing quite a bit about a year in the industry and how it's good for employability after graduation. Just wanted to see what everyone else thought about this and if it's really worth it, considering the price

Thanks!

Hi there! Well done on finishing year 12! It's a great time to start researching universities and considering your options. A year in industry can be amazing experience and help you stand out when applying for jobs after university. It is possible to do a placement year on most university courses, this also allows you to leverage the university's connections.

At NU London we offer a programme called Co-Ops, this is where you can incorporate placement into your undergraduate degree without extending the degree length, there is the opportunity for some Co-Op work placements to become credited and acknowledged on your final transcript giving it further credibility for future employers.

Overall, a year in industry can be very beneficial and provide you with real-world experiences that a classroom can't always provide, it will also help you understand what sort of graduate job you might want to look for. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Definitely go for a course with work-experience or a placement.

It immediately puts you ahead of all those freshly minted-graduates with a nice degree but no work-experience.

Its adds real-life context to your degree studies.

If often leads directly to your first job.

You often get paid for that year.
