Universal credit

Is Universal Credit counted as income? I work and claim UC and just trying to work out what maintenance loan my child would get. Thanks

Hi Michieone,

We don't take into account if you receive Universal Credit when calculating your maintenance loan although the DWP may take into account if you are eligible for a maintenance loan.

It would be my son attending uni not myself. So in theory if I earn less than the lowest salary BEFORE uc then he would qualify for the full maintenance loan??

Hi Michieone,

If you are your son's sole sponsor and you earn less than £25000 then he will be entitled to the maximum maintenance loan.
