Does MSc Grade Matter for Employment?

**not planning to do PhD**

Hi there,

I've struggled a lot with my masters due to very poor mental health i.e. not going outside for days, not eating properly, etc which led to me not showing up for some exams and I didn't get approval no cap resit for all my exams (which I stupidly didn't check at the time). According to the university regulations this means those grades on non approved exams will be registered as 0 for merit/distinction calculations.

I've got around 67% for my second semester & hope to get 70+% for my dissertation but with 40 credits totalling for 5 credits in marks this makes it very difficult to even get a merit (85% min on dissertation).

Does my masters grade matter necessarily? I got a 2:1 in my BSc & both my degrees are from Russell Group unis if that matters.

Also, should I be contacting my supervisor & telling him about my situation so I can get as much of an idea on how to get that 85% as possible?

Most times when employers specify degree classification (mostly minimum 2:1) , it’s ideally for undergraduate degrees. Having a masters is usually a plus, regardless of the grade. I do believe 85% is possible if you work towards it. Check the university’s mark scheme and see what is expected to achieve a high distinction. And yes you should definitely speak to your supervisor as he/she would have more experience with situations like this. You’ve got this!
