Paris 2024 Olympics: Golf

Welcome to the Paris 2024 Olympics!

~This thread is about Golf~

Golf made its Olympic debut at the 1900 Paris games, returned four years later... then was left out for over a century until Rio 2016! That makes Paris 2024 only the 5th Summer games to feature the sport.

The men's event will play first on the 1st August, with the women's side scheduled to occur six days later on the 7th of August. Each will feature 60 players over a four-day-long, 72-hole individual stroke play tournament.

The schedule can be found here.

Use this thread to make your predictions about these events, and discuss the events as they happen.

@AngryJellyfish Are you serious interest in Golf or did you take this sport, because you had no idea what to take otherwise?

My reply is the same as it was 3 years ago - I admire the skill involved!
Olympic golf coverage starts tomorrow at ~7:50 AM, with the men's tournament. Main coverage will be on Discovery+, and I'll be following it as much as work and other commitments allow, particularly as we get closer to medal time.

It may also be covered on the BBC, but I can't make sense of their schedule. :dontknow:

Just beginning now! Victor Perez first tee. :france:
Oops, I don't think Pan C.T. meant to do that. :o:

First birdie of the Paris Olympics goes to Emiliano Grillo!
Tommy Fleetwood for team GB soon to start. :blow:
First eagle for C.T. Pan, nice recovery from earlier.
Love the South Korean flag hat guy in the crowd.

(I'm about to start work, so posting frequency may drop)
Scottie Scheffler (World rank #1) and Rory McIlroy (#2) have begun; Ludvig Åberg (#4) starts with a splash. :o:
Yeah, work got busy. Just checking in on the current scores, Matsuyama Hideki currently in the lead at -6, though he's a few holes behind some of the others... and as I type this, Germany's Matti Schmid now matches that -6 score while 3 holes ahead.

Team GB's Tommy Fleetwood currently joint 7th on -3, as are world #1 Scottie Scheffler for the USA, and #2 Rory McIlroy for the Republic of Ireland (among lots of others)

Day 1 is over, and I didn't get to see anywhere near as much of that as I'd hoped. :grumble: Japan's Matsuyama Hideki still leads on -8, USA's Xander Schauffele is 2nd with -6, and GB's Tommy Fleetwood is one of many in joint 6th with -4.

No cuts on any days in Olympic golf, all competitors will play all four days, so things are only just beginning!

Day 2, let's go! :blow: But as with yesterday, I have work from 9 AM onwards, so apologies if my posting frequency drops massively after that.

Unfortunate start to the day for Finland's Sami Valimaki.

Par, though! Good recovery.

...followed by another splash! :zomg:
Score update: USA's Xander Schauffele now leads with -11! Japan's Matsuyama Hideki is still in close second with -10, and GB's Tommy Fleetwood is now in joint 3rd alongside Spain's Jon Rahm, both close behind on -9.
Scores at the end of day 2: now a three-way tie for 1st place between Matsuyama Hideki, Xander Schauffele and Tommy Fleetwood, all on -11.

Half way through, and hopefully the weekend will mean I'll get to see more than just the first hour tomorrow, and especially Sunday when medals will be won. :king1:

Who is in the lead for the gold medal and who on 2nd and 3rd place now?
