TERRIFIED about my ucat pls help

Heyy
So I have my UCAT booked for 1st of August which is not long away now.
I'm so scared about how I'm going to do.
So far my mock exams have been:
2200
2270
2420
2430
(all high band2)
My scores are nowhere near high enough and I don't know why I'm so awful at all of it. I have medify and I have used every online revision source on the planet and I feel so alone and useless and out of options.
Btw so far I've done around 7 weeks of (less intense) revision so far, as doing 5 hour days for 4/6 weeks was not what I wanted to do!
Is there any hope that I may do better on the actual exam?
Any advice would be great too.
Thank you!

hey so most people did better on the acc thing compared to their mocks
i think the main thing is to see exactly what ur getting wrong - look at the question type and try to improve from there
timing is the main struggle that loads of ppl have - what i did was lets say i wanted to do 20 QR questions, i'd do it untimed and make sure i can answer every question as best as i possibly can and lets say that it took me 25 mins. i would then do 20 questions in 24 mins and then again in 23 mins.... etc - that rly helped me get my timings good

also defo dont burn urself out bc thats another huge pitfall that ppl fall into bc the ucats different from any other normal academic exam so u cant rly spend hours and hours every day revising for it so its good that ur doing little over a longer period of time - but i would say as u get more close to the exam do more mini mock exams and maybe spend more time revising, but again, don't do too much

Change your UCAT exam to a later date to buy yourself some more time to look over your weak areas?

I would do that but I am busy literally every week after that (visiting relatives then straight into more wex then straight into work training courses) so now is the only time I have of (relatively) uninterrupted study :')

UPDATE** Hi just in case anyone reads this at a later date feeling in a similar situation to what I was in, I just did my exam and got 2760 B2 IM SO HAPPY so for everyone else stressing about the ucat, it’s not about what you have been getting in your mocks, what matters is your final score. Just keep sticking at it, do NOT give up and try your hardest not to compare yourself. YOUVE GOT THIS if i can do it, you can too!!

WOWWW WELL DONE!
was the ucat easier than the revision materials? I'm using medify and for some darn reason I can't get out of the 2500 jail, help!

Congratulations! Would you liken to exam more to Medentry or Medify? I am struggling a little atm, averaging 2500 Medify mocks. Although am averaging in the 700's times practice on most sections 🫤

Did you find the actual exam easier than medify mocks?? 🙏🙏🙏🙏 lowkey stressing

Hi! I think you’ve all kind of asked similar questions so I’ll try and answer in one big message.
I used Medify as my main source of questions/support, however I also used A LOT of Youtube videos, and I’m sure you already use it too but I really found watching videos on there really helpful.
In terms of Medify, I found it very good at replicating the real exam. I’ve got to say though, they definitely underscore you in terms of the scales scores on Medify, by quite a lot, so don’t worry if you’re getting low 600s, you will do fine!
Here are my stats and final scores:
Medify VR average: 600
Actual VR: 650
Medify DM average: 620
Actual DM: 660
Medify QR average: 620
Actual QR: 670
Medify AR average: 600
Actual AR: 780 🤯
Medify SJT average: High Band 2
Actual SJT: Band 2
PLEASE bear in mind that I screwed up VR DM and QR in my actual exam because I panicked and messed up my timing, so I could have done a lot better (I skipped soooo many questions)haha

gonna start a new message as this one is long

**CONTINUED**
(these are compared to Medify)
VR:
Slightly easier in the real exam, but KEEP AN EYE ON THE TIME GUYS (I did not lol)
DM:
About the same tbh, syllogisms were a bit easier, can’t say about the puzzles because I guessed and skipped them all, didn’t even read them haha
QR:
Definitely a lot easier, but as with VR, you have to be conscious of time. Don’t attach your soul to a question (like I do) just move on if it’s taking too long. Brush up on you Mean median and mode, your S=d/t, Timings (Minuteand hours etc) and get used to reading weird tables. Not that hard though, again I just ran out of time as I was so nervous haha
AR:
MUCH MUCH EASIER EVERYONE like don’t get me wrong there were I think1/2 sets I was like -_- at but just guess and move on. The rest were quite simple to get the rule, or at least the general gist of what it is.
SJT:
About the same, some scenarios the answer was more obvious than Medify, others were a lot more subjective.
Honestly when I tell you I had so many mental breakdowns over the UCAT, I MEAN IT HAHA, but TRUST ME you have to stick with it, you can do this!!

**CONTINUED AGAIN BECAUSE I CANT STOP RAMBLING** (just wanna help as much as possible)

These were all my mock scores that I did in my UCAT prep (all high Band 2)

2200

2270

2400

2420

2430

2480

2540

2480

2720 (idk what UCAT spirit possessed me here lol)

2660

2540 (day before)

I did about 10 weeks of prep, but only because I needed to sit the UCAT early in the summer so most of my revision was during school and exams. I was doing like 30-120mins a day for the first 8 or so weeks until school ended because I didn’t have time. Once school was over I did about 4-5 hours each day for the last two weeks (it was rough).
I also did 10 weeks of prep and not 6 or whatever, because I generally am not naturally gifted at UCAT skills lol
If you have any othe questions lmk!
Hope this helps! Good luck!

how did you go about revising for VR because i keep averaging about 530 for that but I really want to improve? Do you only scan the text or read it all?

I always read the question first, one to see if I felt like flagging and guessing or actually attempting and two to find key words. I usually just scanned for keywords, if I’m honest I was always very slow at VR but you get better as you do more practice!
Here are my top 4 tips

1.

Watch Emil Eddy on YT doing a times mini mock for VR - it helped me gage how long to spend on each Q and how UCAT pros actually did VR haha

2.

I used the rough estimate of flagging, guessing and leaving 12 Qs out of the 44, that I thought would be the most time consuming, as I went through the section. If I had time I could then come back to them, but at least I had then attempted the easier Qs.

3.

Install Speed Reading apps on your phone for practice (I used “Speedreading” and “Spreeder”)

4.

May just be me but I found before a mock (or real exam) if I read some of my book that I was reading (I was reading the Tattooist of Auchswitz btw - recommend!) my brain was kind of in the ‘reading’ mode to get stuck into VR. Idk why but my scores in VR improved if I just had a quick 5 minute read before I did VR. Perhaps give it a try

Yes!! I'll try do those things. Thank you for the advice

Hey thank you so much for your message! That makes me feel a lot better.
We got exactly the same scores on the medify mocks. I do hope to get better on the real exam.
Wishing you all the best with your application.

You’re welcome, I’m glad it helped. I am sure you will do better in the real UCAT, I think almost everyone gets at least slightly higher in the real thing. You’ve got this! Best of luck with your application too! Which universities are you looking at?
If you have any other specific UCAT questions/need someone to rant about the UCAT to, feel free to PM me 🙂

Hi, thank you so much for everything here - its really helpful. I just wanted to ask would you say in general that the medify mocks were harder or easier than the actual ucat exam. Secondly, did you do any of the official mocks on the website?
