Start a blog sure but then join a bigger website or volunteer with local businesses/charities/art organisations.
These will offer you much better opportunities for developing the skills you need to work in marketing.

I'd like to second this! Also, choose a specific niche (even if it's not what you plan to go into). For example, I've written broadly about travel for my last 2 years as a student. This has allowed me to have a wealth of networking opportunities, and free trips, edit the travel section of our student culture magazine and even create a podcast. I used this experience to get my current marketing job in the coffee industry (not related).
