Advice for international students from international students

Hi guys,
As an international student I know how anxious I was about moving to a whole new country to start university. I had so many questions and was worried about a million and one things.

It would be great if we could come together as international students from different universities to share some advise to new international students starting in September.

Mention your name ,the country you're from , the course you're studying , the city you live in and your advise . I'll start us off :

I'm Cece ! From South Africa , studying Energy engineering in Leicester :
My advice : If you have a South African drivers license convert it to a UK drivers license within the first year you live here otherwise you need to re do it .

Follow up with any advise that you wish you knew , or questions you'd like some advise on.

Hi Cece!

I think this is a great idea to help upcoming freshers, especially international students! I totally agree with you - I remember being so anxious and confused about moving to a different country.

A little about me - My name is Akshita and I have just finished my first year studying BSc Business Management with Placement at the University of Southampton. I'm an international student from India.

My advise: Financial planning is very important! I know that managing finances can feel more overwhelming for international students, so it's a good idea to prepare a monthly budget in advance. It's important to leave some room for occasionally treating yourself, going out with friends and enjoying university life!

I'd also recommend to get a part-time job if you can manage it with academics. Please always ensure that academics remains your top priority! Personally, I found working 10-12 hours per week during my first year manageable. Part-time jobs that are flexible in terms of hours and days such as campus jobs are usually the ideal choice.

Also, always keep an eye out for student discounts and deals (maybe download a few apps for this too) as there are many amazing offers you can use to save money.

I hope this helps!

All the best,
