What career path offers the fastest growth?

I am a 24 year old mechanical engineering student at a russel group university entering my final year.

As someone who wil be graduating at the age of 25 I already feel like I am very behind and wanted to ask, what career path would you advise I go into in order to make up for being 3-4 years behind? Taking into account how hard it may be with my degree choice.

Life is not a competition. Yes, there may be people who you perceive are further ahead in you careerwise but there are also people your age who just started uni, imagine how they must feel! I had to do a foundation year before my degree since I didn't get the required grades in A-level. I also graduated a year ago and only recently got an offer for an engineering grad scheme. So you could say I am two years behind my peers however some of them still don't have jobs!

Don't worry about 'catching up', the retirement age is currently 67 so you have about 42 years of work left.

Glad to see I’m not the only one feeling this way. Also when you study post grad courses , it’s very common to find people at all different age groups. As you branch out, you’ll realise there is really no age generally that people can’t enter a field. I’ve meet people who are like at last 50 who decided they wanted to be lawyers for example on my course

Hey, I totally get where you’re coming from. I was in a similar spot, feeling like I was falling behind. What helped me was focusing on what I’m passionate about within engineering. For me, it was automation and robotics. Try diving into areas like that or renewable energy—fields that are growing fast. Also, internships and networking made a huge difference for me. They helped me land a job that I really enjoy. Just keep at it and don’t worry too much about the timeline; your unique skills and interests will get you where you want to be.
