I don't know if it's better, but Hajime no Ippo has to be up there! :yep:

Yeah, the anime was talked of years ago, I remember.

That is an old pearl I have found about boxing. Ever heard of Ganbare Genki?
@CamembertPaws

You told me that you try boxing. I wonder whether you watch this competition at the olympics and has any favorite boxers.

I've heard of it, yes, but it's not fully subtitled in English yet, as far as I'm aware.

It seems the Italian boxer Angela Carini has been robbed if her chance to win a gold medal. I wish her better luck in future games

She wasn’t robbed of anything. She had her guard down and her opponent duly exploited the opportunity.

Kind of like what I've seen with Connor McGregor in the UFC. I've seen him get knocked out a few times and I've always liked seeing his smug mug get knocked down a few pegs.

Khelif Is a woman. She was born a woman. She grew up a woman. She is a woman.

Rather than getting duped by the idiocy that you see on social media, apply some critical thinking. Do you honestly believe that an Islamic country that bans homosexuality and gender transitioning would allow a trans woman to compete for them in the Olympics?

He has literally been banned previously for having tested for both XY chromosomes and overly high levels of testosterone giving him an unfair advantage. I have no idea why the IOC has just ignored this data

She was banned by the IBA in controversial and questionable circumstances. The IBA is an organisation so scandal ridden and corrupt they even the IOC won’t have anything to do with them. They’ve become a puppet organisation controlled by Russia. Many Western countries including the UK withdrew their athletes in 2023.

Again, stop accepting things you read on the internet at face value.

A woman can have an xy karyotype. It is not my place to teach you basic developmental biology but I’m sure that you can find a YouTube video or something that will walk you through it.

I must admit i used to work as published scientist (not in health or biological sciences) and I honestly find this quite confusing and am genuinely unsure if she should be competing or no.

There seem to be conflicting reports on her chromosomes, the tests that were done and her “biological gender at birth”, the reality is i think an independent (reputable, respected and with an apolitical track record) who is a expert in cytogenetic science needs to be the one communicating clearly their opinion as well as a rational explanation of the nuances.

Their seems to me to be a number of possibilities:

she is genetically a female with a valid explanation for the chromosome test

She is a female athlete with slightly abnormal genetics and this a grey area requiring sophisticated detail as to who can & should compete where

She is a female athlete who attempted to gain a performance advantage through finding a way to leverage testosterone/similar (should be banned)

She was born genetically male, is transgender but has benefited physically through male hormones and should be banned from female sports

Now i do not have a clue which nuance this is, but it is either deeply unfair on her to destroy her reputation or deeply unfair on the competitors who are fighting in a rigged game.

Without a reputable expert from a position of sport & political neutrality it is very hard to know what to make of this.

I wasn't planning on mentioning anime in this thread again, but apparently Lin Yu-ting (representing Chinese Taipei in the women's 57 kg event) was inspired to start boxing by Hajime no Ippo.

5 of them if one weight is being fought by two men. Can't call that one a female weight class anymore.

The two caught up in this horrendous row aren't in the same weight class. :lolwut:
