Question about Experience Doing MSc Psychological Research at University of Oxford

Hi! If there are any students who did this course or are currently doing it, I wanted to ask about your experience with it. Specifically, if it is especially very tough or if there are expectations of a lot of previous knowledge about the course material, such as neuroscience or MATLAB, etc. I'm a bit nervous and wanted to ask how helpful the instructors are and if there is stuff I need to expect. Anything is helpful as I can't find anyone who has spoken about this course before. Do I need to prepare anything before going? Have a great day!

Hey feafraa!
Jumping into an MSc in Psychological Research at Oxford sounds like an exciting challenge!
From what I've heard, it's definitely rigorous, but don't sweat it too much.
The instructors are usually super supportive, and they'll guide you through any tricky bits like neuroscience or MATLAB. Maybe brush up on those areas if you're feeling nervous,
but otherwise, dive in and enjoy the ride! Good luck—you've got this!

I did Psychology undergrad at Oxford (went elsewhere for postgrad). All the Oxford Psychology tutors I met were really nice, they push you to do your best but I still found it to be a positive learning environment, I’d imagine there’s a lot of crossover in terms of who teaches on the Master’s! As for the course difficulty obviously I can’t say much but I did consider applying for it and my tutor kind of warned me off because it would probably be a bit repetitive from my undergrad so I get the impression it isn’t overwhelmingly challenging, but there might be a lot of new stuff if your undergrad wasn’t super research focused.

If you need to prepare anything they should tell you, though if you’re worried it can’t hurt to look over some basics of some of the stuff you’re less sure about so you can get a head start on the course. But they’re not expecting you to know everything about all of it right when you start because then what would be the point of doing the degree? Hope that helps a bit, hopefully you can find someone who has studied the course to give you more information - might be worth posting in the Oxford forum as well if you haven’t already.
