Applying for jobs at uni

I'm applying for jobs in York for when my course starts but employers are asking for an address and my current address is miles away from York. This leads to rejection and waiting until results day for accommodation to be allocated might leave me with fewer job opportunities. Are there any ways to yet around this, asking the university for a temporary address line etc? Many thanks.

Hi there @ReubenRoss-White , if you don't know your room number but already know which student halls of residence you will be staying at, you can put down the general address of the accommodation. If not I don't see a problem with putting your current address and making a note that you are in the process of moving to York 🙂. You may also want to consider working within your university (eg. student ambassador scheme, reception, res life, library...) as they tend to pay above min wage. Hope this helps!

You can just put the address of your top choice college eg Goodricke College, Heslington, York

Hi there,

Congratulations on your offer to study at York! Hopefully we'll see you on campus in September!

Unfortunately, we can't endorse you using a University college address on job applications until you have received confirmation of your place and your room allocation, as without these you might end up giving a false address to a potential employer.

If I were you, I'd probably give your current home address on any applications, but if possible add the caveats that you are:

Willing to travel for each shift

Very flexible and willing to work at short-notice

Applying to university in York, with a very good chance of moving there in September

I hope this helps, and best of luck in your job search! - Hannah 🙂
