year 12 mock grades a levels

Hi! I am studying History, English Literature and Religious Studies for my a levels. I received these grades for my first ever round of mocks:
- B in Religious Studies
- C in History
- E in English Literature
These are not the best grades, and I am disappointed about my English grades. I am predicted ABD at the moment. What can I do to improve these grades and what revision methods can I do in order to bump my grades up. I think my main problem is that I don't structure my answers properly, which leads to my essay's not being as coherent as it should be.
Any help will be much appreciated!

Hi. I did A level History and English. I believe the essay style is a bit different depending on the exam board, so what exam board are you doing? I did AQA, so can only help if that’s what you’re also doing.

Thank you for the reply! sadly i'm doing edexcel for both subjects. Do you have any tips on how to revise english because i'm so lost, i even have to start coursework soon and my teachers haven't really explained how to do it, we just have to read the books over the summer

Ah that’s a pity. Hopefully someone else who is doing edexcel will be able to advise you on essay style.

In terms of English revision, I used flashcards, where I would put a quote in the middle and then my different bits of analysis around it, as well as the key themes it applies to and any context that I could use with it. Then I’d have separate flashcards with a theme or character on one side and critics quotes about them on the other. You could also use a document with a brief overview of every chapter/act to help you revise the plot.

Hope that helps
