What is Clearing?

Hi everyone!
Going to yr 13 next year, will hopefully start university in 2025 so I’ve started all the needed planning etc but something i would love for someone to explain is ‘clearing.’ What is it, when should it be considered, and is it applicable for only certain courses at certain universities?

I’m going to be applying for law at (currently decided) Oxford, KCL, LSE, Queen Mary and Manchester.

Thanks!

Ur going to be applying to 5 unis. Then unis will decide whether to give u offer or not. Then u will put an offer for firm and insurance. Firm is the uni u will go to if u get the grades. Insurance is the uni u will go to if u miss ur firm offer. Note insurance also has offer requirement. If u miss both grades, u will be entered clearing where u can call any uni u want and ask if they can offer u a place. If u do better than expected by a lot

If u do better than expected u can reject both offers and apply to a so called better uni by clearing, so clearing are for underachievers and overachievers essentially
