I'll be starting a history degree in September of this year and I would like if current history students or history graduates would give me some advice for when I start. Or things I can do to prepare over the summer. Thanks.

From a former history student; over the summer read about what you love and visit the sites, museums and art exhibitions you love. Go into your course filled with enthusiasm for this fantastic subject. Enjoy 🙂

So good to see some fellow History enthusiasts out there! My best advice for first year would be not too put too much pressure on yourself to get top marks or know absolutely everything, just try as many new things as you can - who knows when you'll find your new favourite subject! Also, find the mark schemes your department uses when they become available to you- knowing what they want to see from you is your biggest key to success. Finally, make friends with your lecturers! 3 years in one department is a long time, and its good to get to know staff earlier so you feel more comfortable asking them questions and speaking up in seminars.
Best of luck and have an amazing time! Kat MA Diplomacy Student/ BA History Grad

I coasted through my BA and regret it. If I could go back, I'd read a lot more. Most profs will give you an optional reading list for most courses. I'd not make it optional. Fortunately, I woke up when I did my MA and PhD.
