Anyone studying at Newquay University Centre Sept 2024?

Hi everyone (or anyone)!

Anyone else studying at Newquay University Centre this (2024) coming September? Feel like the only bugger who knows this place exists--there's virtually no forum posts about it here at all, let alone recent ones!

I'm doing the CertHE (into FdSc second year) Animal Behaviour and Welfare course! What're other people doing applying for? I've already confirmed my place since I took a gap year and already have my results, but if you've got offers/plans to come then good luck to you!

Really hoping to meet new people while I'm up there--course sounds brilliant, but my big worry is that I'll get there and realise I should've gone somewhere bigger even if the courses didn't sound as good 😅

Hi! I'm starting FdSc Marine Biology with Conservation this September. I was wondering if you've found accommodation yet, as I am struggling to find somewhere that I'd be comfortable living.

Hi! I'm hoping to study FdSc Marine Biology with Conservation this September. I was wondering, have you had any luck with accommodation? As I'm currently finding it difficult.

hey there! yeah, i've managed to find accommodation already thankfully--i'll try to help how i can! i sent a message, but just in case you haven't seen it i'll send it here too:

if you look at the uni website, they have a list of latest uni-approved vacancies. these vary from HMOs and house shares, to lodgings, annexes etc, so there should be something you like! average rent prices in newquay seem to be anywhere from £550-£650/pcm based on what i saw while i was looking, but obviously it depends what you're looking for. either way, all the places on this list will be places the uni knows are safe.

otherwise, try spareroom! that's where i found mine, rather than through the uni site--just be mindful that since spareroom isn't affiliated with the uni, not all the listings will be available to students (as some will only rent to people working full-time, people over a certain age, etc). they can also get pretty pricy depending on what you look at! if you make use of the filters and set up email alerts for your preferences though, hopefully you'll find something that suits you.

if you still can't find anything, try not to stress too much--given that you said hoping to study, i take it you're waiting on results day to confirm an offer? in that case (along with good luck to you!), uopn confirming your place, you'll receive an email titled 'confirmation of place - [course name]', which'll include a QR code that when scanned will take you to a google form that you can fill out requesting support finding accommodation. that'll get sent off to the accommodation support staff (including caroline dorman), and they'll give you a ring/email within a few days to see how you're doing and how they can help. i've already got my results from last year, so i can tell you that with certainty because i did it LMAO.

for what it's worth, caroline was an absolutely lovely lady when i spoke to her on the phone--after filling out the form i ended up finding my accommodation independently, but she was still very lovely and asked if i'd been to see it, if it suited what i was looking for etc. i'm sure she'll be able to help you if you need it closer to the time :>

what difficulties are you encountering, though? obv this is all pretty generic advice--if you're having specific issues, let me know and i'll see if i can think a way round them perhaps?

My son is considering this in clearing - but we live the other end of the country and the lack of formal student accommodation is daunting. He’s looking at the same course if he doesn’t make his firm
