Masters at Durham or Birmingham

High guys, I'm wondering if I could get some insight into my situation currently.

I have been accepted into the Universities of Durham and Birmingham to do my masters in Data Science (Bioinformatics and Biological Modelling) and Bioinformatics respectively. At Birmingham I have also been offered a £10,000 grant and would have no fees to pay as l'd live at home and the governments postgraduate loan will cover tuition fees. However for Durham, I would have to defer a year to work and save around £12,000 for rent, food etc.

Is Durham prestigious enough to wait this extra year, or should I accept Birminghams offer?

Thanks for your time 😀

I'm not familiar with your course, but I'd strongly consider accepting the Birmingham offer if it comes with funding. Funding for Masters can be difficult to come across and I've found it to be quite rare, and Masters courses are expensive.

Thank you so much for your insight, I’m leaning towards Birmingham because of this

1000% go with Birmingham. It is much stronger within this field than Durham. Durham is traditionally strong in Law and Humanities. Birmingham is a giant in Bioinformatics and Biomedical research. I don't understand why you would even think that Durham is more prestigious than Birmingham, because Birmingham has a slightly stronger international reputation overall over Durham, although in the UK people generally regard Durham to be slightly stronger at undergraduate level in some subjects.
