Current y12 applying for law next year hopefully

Hi, I am most likely to be applying for law next year and I am in two minds. I think I perhaps may be able to get an offer to one of the "top" unis( Oxbridge etc) but I am fearful and apprehensive about life in general there. I value a good social life greatly, as I view it essential to maintaining good mental health. I am also into sports very much which is another put off. Anyhow, these are my GCSE and a level grades.
GCSE-
History-9
Re -9
English Language-9
Business-8
Maths -8
Stats-8
Bio-8
Physics-8
German-7
Chem-7
Elit-7

A levels predicted( what I think I will be predicted)

Economics A*
Maths A/A*

Interested to hear opinions from others on this matter and what i should do next year.

*what I mentioned about the social life is essentially I believe in work hard play hard, I would be fine with sitting down and working my way through 8 hours of uni work, but if after those 8 hours there is no opportunity to go out and socialise I wouldnt be terribly pleased. Hence I would like to study somewhere both academically rigorous and reputable to land a training contract, but also somewhere that has a good social scene/sports scene.

Just remember that Oxford isnt for everyone. Its high-pressure and intense, and an Oxford degree doesn't guarantee you a 'better' career or a happy life. It has nothing to do with intelligence or ability - it just isnt the right atmosphere for everyone to flourish. Law at Unis like Bristol, Nottingham, Manchester may suit you better. Go to some Open Days, look around, ask questions and decide which sort of Unis are going to be best for you.

Yes I think I am in agreement. I loved Bristol when I looked around when my sister was applying, so perhaps that might be a great option. I am typically good at coping with stress and pressure as it's something I've encountered a lot already, so I think that wouldn't be a particular put off from oxbridge. But I agree that it might not be the best fit for me. I have heard horror stories about the social life ( or lack of ) and I think I may be more Bristol/Manchester inclined. Would you say with my grade profile, and a degree from Bristol,I would have a chance at landing a training contract at MC or an American firm in say London ? Thanks for the advice btw

OP, the idea that there is no social life at Oxford and Cambridge is a myth. In addition, the opportunities to participate in sports are extensive at both universities. As others say, try not to stress out and don't fixate on one or two universities. Apply to a range that you like, selecting all five with care.

forget about what people say about whatecer uni regarding social life. you can make a city fun with the people you hand around, make good friends and youll have a fun time. Also, you have good GCSEs yes, but so does everyone else applying to oxbridge so not trying to be that guy bit you may not even get in so dont worry too much about it now. Also regaridng ur other question about bristol and MC firms, well im at notts and i have a TC in a MC firm so any RG firm and some others youll be fine.

hi, i’m also a current year 12 and honestly nobody goes to oxbridge for the “social life” it’s for academics unless you count the societies and sports as social life. i recommend applying to durham if you like the collegiate system of oxbridge but be prepared to get a really good score in the lnat, also manchester/bristol/exeter/nottingham are all great unis for law (top 20) and have that balance you want and also don’t need the lnat

Societies and sports are social life (social and society have the same Latin root), and there is plenty of other social life at Oxford, quite a lot of it involving intoxicants. Students are students.

Take the Oxtube to London - it runs 24/7.

Hi!! University of Nottingham has many sporting opportunities - it has the David Ross Centre where there is plenty to do and there are also lots of clubs and societies within the University.

bristol needs the lnat ! 40% of your application...

Thank you for all of the advice. I am probably the most keen on Bristol right now, but I might still " shoot my shot" at Oxbridge. Btw you were not "being that guy " I am not offended, I am aware my GCSEs aren't "that" amazing, but I was under the impression that a level predicted grades and lnat are more important. Both of these will be strong points of my application, as I scored a 32 on a practice LNAT.
